Q2 2026 Estimated Tax — June 16
Tuesday, June 16, 2026
Second quarter 2026 estimated tax payment due June 16 — covering April 1 through May 31 income.
Who must file or pay
Self-employed individuals, freelancers, S-Corp shareholders, and anyone expecting to owe $1,000+ in federal tax after withholding.
What you need to know
The Q2 2026 estimated tax payment covers income earned April 1 through May 31, 2026. Note: Q2 only covers two months (April–May), while Q1 and Q3 each cover three months. This asymmetry is an IRS historical artifact — do not underpay assuming Q2 covers April through June.
The standard June 15 deadline falls on a Sunday in 2026, so the due date moves to Monday June 16. Always verify with the IRS or your tax professional when deadlines shift due to weekends or holidays.
If you received a large one-time payment in April or May (freelance contract, asset sale, business distribution), this payment may need to be larger than your other quarterly estimates. Genie can run a catch-up estimate using the annualized income installment method.
Underpayment penalty under IRC §6654 applies if you fail to pay at least 25% of the required annual payment by this date. The penalty accrues from the due date until you pay, at the current IRS interest rate.
